“The sun shines again,
Its light blinding us happily,
For we missed it,
Gods, how we missed it!
Rocking alone in the dark,
Believing there would be no restart,
Only darkness hiding all the light,
And we losing all the fight
We ever had in our hearts
To come out on the other side.
But Spring is coming
And with it comes Hope,
Inebriating us with the scent of flowers
Making us once again believe
In a new, stronger love
We can, at last, call ours…”

Is it Spring?
“Is it Spring my eyes are seeing?
Is it its singsong ravens are bringing?
The sun warms my bones,
I’ve been freezing for too long,
Is this the end of winter and its icy cold?
The leaves are green, the birds are chirping,
They haven’t seen white here where we’re living,
But just like me they have witnessed
The rain of my soul as I fell into stillness…
Like a tale as old as time,
The weather is foretelling
A change from the greyest of skies
To the clear blue of an angel’s eyes.”

Dear Spring, do come in
“Dear Spring, do come in,
I have been waiting for you,
Twisting in bed sheets,
Running from bad dreams.
I had yet to write an ode to you,
My apologies, my life is a roller coaster –
I’m no longer aware of when it’s going up
Since I lost the ability to keep up.
But the swallows flight brought back
The happiness I kept holding onto for dear life,
Blooming like wild and free forget-me-nots
Easing from my throat the tears I kept in a knot.
Dear Spring, I’m so glad to see
You brought the sun with you,
Even though I know it’s not solely for the sake
Of defrosting my heart’s ache…
I thank you either way,
As I welcome you to another stay,
Looking forward to the memories
We are all about to make…”

Another Spring
“Sunny days remind me of youth,
Another Spring ready to bloom,
Chirps in the morning air vanishing the blue
My heart, to live with, got used.
I feel the thrill’s crescendo in me,
The hope of it all is finally here,
Ready to reignite the spark
That got lost in Winter’s dark.
Can’t tell you how much is on the line –
I have got all my cards on the table now,
For I have showed all the aces I called mine
To downplay a move in this game right now.
The sun will give me the courage I seek
To continue this path I am building,
Step by step, brick by brick,
Every single day, as long as I am breathing.”

Sandcastles
“Calendars count our days,
Clocks tick our hours,
And I am a Spring grain of sand
That has fallen from your sandcastle.
Too soon for Summer to come and grant us a do over,
No restart in sight for a seed that has been planted
Where it is only going to perish
Unable to find a sunbeam to cherish.
What must cease, its end will meet,
Better sooner than later, believe me;
Fire starters burst from within,
Leaving no air for us to breathe in.
So count your days but keep on moving,
Fight the stagnant clock but count your blessings,
For seasons change with or without us noticing,
And soon, stronger sandcastles, we will be building.”

Lovely Spring
“Lovely Spring, it’s so good to see you here,
If there’s a word for Winter it would be misery,
For my darkness was spent in longing for warmer days
To finally come and take all my pain and cold away.
Dear Spring, another robin has found my windowsill, this year,
Filling me with a hope I haven’t felt near
For full months of wondering and worrying
About what happens next to a heart that keeps on breaking.
I thought I had seen myself in all the many pieces
A human being can break and come back for another round,
But now I know there’s always a bit the pain misses
Giving it a chance to save it for when it comes back around.
Lovely Spring, now, with you, it will be better,
The sun, the flowers and the birds rejuvenate my heart for what matters,
And I find myself believing it is possible, at last,
To find the happiness I have lost in the past.”

Dear Spring
“Dear Spring, I have been waiting for you
But you too look sad now that you’re here;
Cold and rain came arms in arms with you,
Closer friends than they’ve been to winter this year.
I suppose my creativity needs you here –
At arm’s length, I see buds have sprung on trees,
But my ideas still long to reminisce
For what in the past did and didn’t exist.
Dear Spring, please, don’t sigh
For my sighs are still the same;
I’ve been hanging on by a thread,
Odd I haven’t yet fallen on my head.
Can I ask you if ideas
Can bloom in your season?
I need your blessing, you see?,
To get a name out of my lips.
Dear Spring, I have been hoping
To grow fond of someone else,
But it seems my love is but a circle
And if I stop, my heart will send me to hell.
So I will hold on to the hope
That you, Spring, are now my rope –
My salvation in your kaleidoscope
Of flowers, that will show me my way home.”
